I am very excited to be involved in a visionary project like 2059! And even more, I am excited to be on a team with many young people in Oregon who are dreaming and acting on ways to ACTIVATE Oregon!
Hi - I'm Marilyn.
I work at Oregon State University. As part of my work I focus on civic engagement opportunities with youth in 4-H.
This week, ACTIVATE Oregon, just became part of my day too! I am lovin' this.
As a member of the state-wide team to continue the great work many of you have already…

Between August 7th and 8th, "Activate Oregon," a youth leadership summit was held at Willamette University. Sixty-four high school students from across Oregon attended this summit in Salem to begin planning Oregon's next 50 years leading up to its bicentennial.

Do you like to act? Are you interested in politics and current events? (Silly question, I know.) Do you enjoy public speaking or have poor public speaking skills that you wish to improve upon? Do you want something fabulous to put on you college applications that could also get you a scholarship? Do you want to meet cool new people, travel, and enjoy yourself in a (usually) fairly academic setting? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please, keep reading! If you didn't, well, keep rea…

Happy Monday, everyone!
I'd like to give a shout-out to Ari Strudler, our Project 2059 high school intern who you all have been in contact with over the last few months. Last week we got to talking about the "Activate Oregon" summit and her experiences meeting all the students and representatives from cities and industries around the state. I told her she should write an Opinion Editorial (Op-Ed) to
The Oregonian.
Ari's Op-Ed, "…

Okay, so I'm into architecture, and this is perhaps my favorite new building material: the steel shipping container. I mentioned this to two different groups over the weekend (you know who you are) and if I remember correctly, everyone looked at me as if I was completely insane. (This is not true; I am clearly only
mostly insane.) But because I'm such a nice person, and people keep telling me that we're going to get things done someday, I'm going to pass on to you my love of container hom…

I would like to see something done about the invasive species that are spreading throughout Oregon. Something needs to be done because they are displacing native species, lowering crop productiveness, and are devaluing property. One thing that could be done to prevent invasive species from spreading is early detection brochures.
Another thing that needs to be done is the clean up and rehabilitation of illegal dump sites, because it hurts the environment, and keeping Oregon green is important!
